The 12-season system is a modern method used in color analysis to determine which colors best harmonize with and enhance a person’s natural coloring.

It builds upon the original 4-season system, which classified people into Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter based on their overall warmth or coolness and lightness or darkness.

The 12-season system adds nuance by dividing each of the four main seasons into three sub-seasons:

Bright Spring, True Spring, Light Spring

Light Summer, True Summer, Soft Summer

Soft Autumn, True Autumn, Deep Autumn

Deep Winter, True Winter, Bright Winter

Each of the 12 sub-seasons represents a unique blend of three key characteristics of color:

temperature - warm vs. cool

value - light vs. dark

chroma - soft vs. bright
